Jiang Calls for Better Deal for Demobilized Officers
Chines President Jiang Zemin has asked that measures should be taken to better organize the demobilization of military officers so that they can contribute to the country's economic construction.

The instruction of Jiang, also general secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and chairman of the Central Military Commission, was issued at the opening of a national work conference on the demobilization of military officers, which was held in Beijing Friday.

Transferring military officers to civilian work across the nation is an important job, said Jiang, thus making proper arrangements for demobilized officers would have a bearing on building both a stable society and the armed forces.

Jiang stressed to do a good job of it is the duty of CPC committees and governments at all levels and the obligation of the whole society.

He pointed out that demobilized officers are valuable human resources and key building blocks in China's modernization drive. They should be well accepted, allocated, trained and managed after transferred to civilian work so they can do their best in different jobs.

A total of 38,000 officers of the military and armed police are expected to be demobilized this year.
