The British Government is encouraging more British companies to do business in East China's Fujian Province.
That was the good news delivered by Stephen Lillie, Consul General of Guangzhou British Consulate-General, on Saturday at the 2002 Fuzhou International Investment Promotion Month in the capital of Fujian.
The five-day event, which is drawing nearly 10,000 participants from more than 40 countries and regions, is held each year by the Fuzhou government to attract investment from outside the city.
"Fujian is one of China's most dynamic and prosperous provinces," Lillie said before the launch of the "Britain in Fujian Initiative," a campaign to promote UK-Fujian relations.
According to Lillie, British companies have been doing well in the province, and there is room for more companies to share in that wealth. For example, British Petroleum in Fuzhou and Swire's TAECO Aircraft Engineering in Xiamen, another city in Fujian, have both recorded successes, he said.
He also said they will expand their Internet site to include more information about Fujian and its attractions.
A seminar will be held on June 4 in Fuzhou to introduce the investment environment in Britain; another seminar will be held in the UK later this year to promote Fujian.
