Wuhan in central China's Hubei Province will hold series of events in the coming weeks to mark the 90th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911, which ended more than 2,000 years of feudal monarchy in China.
National, provincial and municipal authorities have spent over one million U.S. dollars for the renovation of 20 historical sites in the city, where the revolution was initiated.
Among them are the Red Mansion, which housed the military government set up in the revolution, the two cemeteries for martyrs of the revolution, and the barracks of the engineering battalion that joined the Wuchang Uprising.
The Wuchang Uprising in October 1911 marks the beginning of the Revolution of 1911, which led to the overthrowing of the Qing Dynasty and the establishment of the first democratic government in China.
