The roof of the high-rise China International Trust Investment Corporation office building in Wuhan, central China, suddenly collapsed, while a refurbishing project was undergoing on June 20. The accident killed 4 people and injured 6, with the cause of the accident still under investigation.
Four construction workers have been killed after the building they were working on fell apart.
The accident happened in Wuhan, the capital of Central China's Hubei Province, on Wednesday.
Six workers were injured and still in hospital Thursday night.
Sources with the city government said the cause of the accident was still unknown.
At about 9:30 am on Wednesday, an 18-square-metre piece of wall suddenly fell from the top of the 21-storey building in Jianshe Street in Hankou.
The building was being refurbished at the time.
The whole construction site was covered in dust caused by the fall.
The fallen section of wall destroyed scaffolding in front of the building and then crashed onto the builders.
The emergency services arrived on the scene immediately and evacuated the area.
Police cordoned off the site to keep passers-by away .
"I heard someone crying and then saw large blocks falling," said 32-year-old Kuang Huaiting, a worker who was hit by falling pieces of wall and lost consciousness for almost five minutes.
After the accident, Wang Shouhai, the mayor of Wuhan, urged relevant departments to make efforts to ensure the safety of construction workers and try to prevent such accidents from happening again.
The refurbishment of the building began in late March. It is expected to become a branch of the CITIC Industrial Bank.
