S. China City Adopts First Rules on Islamic Food
Guangzhou, capital of Guangdong Province, has introduced its first regulations on the management of food of some ethnic minorities, in an effort to protect their interests and rights.

Effective from June 10, the Regulations on Management of Islamic Food stipulates that Muslims should be involved in the management of companies or factories producing Islamic food.

The regulation also sets out a special qualification for Islamic food producers, and stipulates the use of special logo with the approval of the city's ethnic affairs authorities.

Vice Mayor Su Zequn said the implementation of the regulations will promote the healthy development of the Islamic food industry and consolidate solidarity among people of various ethnic groups in the city.

Guangzhou has nearly 10,000 residents of a dozen ethnic minorities including the Hui, Uygur, Kazak and Tajik who believe in Islam. It also attracts thousands of foreign Muslim businessmen to the trade fairs in spring and autumn every year.
