A 12-kilometer power line connecting the electricity networks of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) and the neighboring city of Zhuhai in South China will ensure more sufficient supply of power in the SAR.
The Macao Electricity Co. Ltd. and the Zhuhai subsidiary of Guangdong Power Group signed an agreement recently to build the line at an estimated cost of US$2.24 million, Xinhua learned Thursday.
The 110-kilowatt power line will be located between Macao's Taipa Island and Zhuhai's Hengqin Island, very adjacent to each other, and will be put in use in May 2003.
This will be the second power line linking Macao with Zhuhai. The first one, which was completed in 1983, now enables Macao to purchase electric power that equals about one tenth of the SAR's total power demand from the neighboring Guangdong Province. The bulk of power supply in Macao still comes from local power plants.
