Bilis Leaves 612 Dead in China

As of 16:00 on Monday, Typhoon Bilis which caused heavy floods and rainstorms has left 612 people dead, 208 missing, and 3 million relocated to safer places, according to the office of the National Natural Disaster Reduction Committee.

In the meantime, the country is getting prepared to fight the year's No.5 tropical storm Kaemi, according to sources with the disaster relief department of the Ministry of Civil Affairs.

Typhoon Kaemi is expected to arrive in Fujian Province, east China, in the coming days. Fujian's provincial department of civil affairs has worked out an emergency plan to combat the super-large-scaled natural calamities.

So far, the province has allocated 12,000 tents, 50,000 quilts, 80,000 wears, and a five-day food supply for 300,000 people.

Also on Monday, the ministry sent 3,500 tents and 1,000 tents to Yunnan Province, in southwest China, and Qinghai Province, in the northwest, which were recently struck by earthquakes.
