Beijing police disclosed a plan saying police patrolling will be reinforced pending the 2008 Olympics, sources from a news release of the municipal Public Security Bureau said Sunday.
According to Yang Chaoyuan, deputy head of the patrolling police team, several hundred policemen have been deployed to provide round-the-clock inspections at Olympic sites to crack down on possible illegal activities aiming to sabotage the preparation work.
In addition, the police will also station 21 security inspection stations on the major highways linking the outskirts and main districts of Beijing to block suspicious vehicles and people from entering the city, said Yang, adding that the inspection stations will form a security line around the suburban areas of Beijing.
Yang also said the police will start in 2006 to reemploy motorcycles as a major patrolling vehicle in some densely populated areas, because they are more flexible for prowling in the city's hutongs and alleys.
During important occasions such as the spring festival, as many as 12,000 policemen will be on guard at major venues, Yang noted.
