Rainstorms Disrupt Railway Traffic

Thirty-seven trains on the Beijing-Kowloon Railway were either delayed or turned back by cave-ins after days of rain.

Railway workers were repairing the railway Wednesday, which had been damaged by 30 hours of continuous rain in the past two days.

The cave-ins appeared on the railway's Guangdong section, causing 26 trains to stop and 11 others to change routes.

Guangdong's railway group initiated an emergency plan to tackle the situation. The company mobilized more than 1,200 employees to work around the clock for emergencies Monday and sent 446 technicians to the cave-in sites Tuesday.

A passenger on the No. 1019 train from Hefei in East China's Anhui Province to Dongguan in Guangdong said he had waited for about 10 hours on the train as it was stuck in Heyuan, Guangdong.

The railway company also opened three special windows for affected passengers to refund their tickets and kept broadcasting latest news about train schedule changes at Guangzhou's railway stations.

The company reminded passengers to pay attention to broadcast and notices at railway stations.
