One was killed and four others injured in a fire that broke out Wednesday night on a giant oil tanker berthed at the wharf of Lixin Shipyard of Shanghai.
The fire broke out at around 7:30 PM in the dormitory area of Daqing No. 254 oil tanker, with a tonnage of 60,000, belonging to the China Ocean Shipping Corporation.
The fire had been brought under control at press time.
The four injured people, two workers of them, who were seriously burned and in a critical condition, according to doctors with the No. 7 People's Hospital of Shanghai.
The fire was put out at about 10:45 PM, but the oil tanker was seriously damaged.
Shanghai fire fighting authorities had examined the fire fighting equipment of the shipyard several days ago and ordered the shipyard to upgrading the out-of-date equipment.
