China's tax revenue surged 25.2 percent year-on-year to 863.9 billion yuan (104.5 billion US dollars) in the first five months of the year, the country's top taxation officer said Friday.
Director of the State Administration of Taxation Xie Xuren told a national teleconference on the taxation system that the January-May tax revenue was 175.5 billion yuan more than the same period last year, and 45.7 percent of this year's target had been reached.
Xie attributed the achievement to efforts to strengthen tax collection and crack down on tax evasion and fraud, in addition to tax incentives to the work of controlling severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) and improved work on import and export tax rebates.
Xie asked the tax offices at all levels to continue to fight against SARS and to strengthen tax collection so as to maintain a stable and fast increase in revenue.
