The Shanghai Taxation Bureau raked in a total of 20.2 billion yuan (about US$2.43 billion) in taxes in January, setting a new record for a single month.
This represents an increase of 4.865 billion yuan (about US$586 million), or up 31.72 percent year-on-year.
The figures disclosed here Sunday also show increases in almost all tax categories.
Some 7.96 billion yuan (about US$959 million) was made in vale-added tax and excise tax, up 28.08 percent year-on-year, 2.63 billion yuan (about US$317 million) in corporate incometax, up 33.3 percent, and 1.72 billion yuan (about US$208 million) in individual income tax, up 50 percent.
Revenue of corporate income tax from foreign-invested companies also rose by 21.47 percent to 2.38 billion yuan (about US$287 million).
Meanwhile, about 57.26 percent of the city's total tax revenue, or 11.57 billion yuan (about US$1.4 billion), came from its 19 districts and counties, which represents a year-on-year growth of 43.82 percent.
