China to Host APEC E-commerce Expo
China is due to host an electronic-commerce expo of the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) in the coastal city of Yantai in its eastern Shandong province from April 24 - 28 next year, local officials said on Wednesday.

The expo was approved at the APEC trade ministers' conference last May. It is designed to showcase the latest achievements in information technology and E-commerce models in APEC member economies, promote investment and cooperation in the field and facilitate sustained economic growth and common prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region.

The expo will include a high-level seminar on E-commerce, a seminar for mayors on E-government, a bilateral and multi-lateral cooperation and investment fair in E-commerce technology, and an exhibition on E-commerce and related products.

With "E-commerce and economic globalization" as its theme, the expo will be held by APEC in cooperation with the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, the Ministry of Information Industry and the Yantai city government.

Formed in 1989, the APEC forum is a group of Pacific Rim economies working together to promote open trade, investment and economic and technical cooperation.

Its member economies include Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, the Republic of Korea (ROK), Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Singapore, Chinese Taipei, Thailand and the United States.
