Small and medium-size enterprises (SMEs) in Beijing need foreign capital and management expertise, Beijing's Mayor Liu Qi said in a meeting with a visiting Japanese guest Wednesday.
In his meeting with Tanii Akio, chairman of Japan-China Economic and Trade Center, the mayor said that small and medium-size enterprises have mushroomed in Beijing in recent years, especially in the new and hi-tech fields.
Of the 11,000 enterprises located in the Zhongguancun Science and Technology Park, 90 percent are SMEs, said Liu.
"Most of them are managed by scientific and technological personnel instead of entrepreneurs," said the mayor, "and consequently they own new technology but lack mature management and capital. Beijing welcomes overseas assistance in these two fields."
Tanii Akio said his center would sign an agreement with the Chinese side to jointly boost cooperation between SMEs of China and Japan.
