Severe Water Shortage in 110 Cities
Some 110 Chinese cities are suffering from severe water shortage, especially large cities, due to worsening water pollution, shortage of water resources and the deterioration of the environment.

Statistics from the ongoing national working conference on

water resources, which was held in Liuyang City in central China's Hunan Province, showed that some cities in northern China are forced to ration their water supply, and Hubei and Hunan provinces are faced with shortage of electric power caused by low river water.

Sources from the conference also revealed that China will issue a new law on water in the first half of the year, which will deal with urban water conservancy.

The new law will also stress the organization of water

resources and the protection of the environment.
