When some Chinese endeavor to go abroad for learning, a growing number of foreign nationals come to seek jobs in Guangzhou, a booming city in south China's Guangdong Province, Yangcheng Evening News reports.
Incomplete statistics released by the Guangzhou Municipal Labor Bureau showed, more than 10,000 foreign nationals from 60 countries and regions are working in Guangzhou.
The number of foreign workers in the city in 2000 was seven or eight times more than that in 1996. Most of them came from Japan and the United States. The growth of job-seekers from Singapore and Malaysia is faster in the last couple of years.
Nearly 80 percent foreign staff work as senior managers in Sino- foreign joint ventures or foreign-funded enterprises. Some serve as chefs, English teachers, ball game players, doctors and musicians. They exert greater influence with their way of thinking and living.
