Only 80.8 percent of toys were found to meet standards, according to a recent official national survey released by China's quality watchdog.

The General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine spot-checked 120 products manufactured by 108 firms in Fujian, Guangdong, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Shanghai.

Toy defects included unhealthy raw materials, sharp edges, and inappropriate manuals, just to name a few, the watchdog said.

The watchdog found over 25 percent of toys unqualified in May of last year during a similar review. Serving as the world's largest toy exporter with export accounting for 70 percent of the world's total, safety remains a major problem for the giant toy manufacturer.

For instance, some dolls were discovered filled with industrial waste, such as black-colored moldy cotton or gauze discarded by hospitals, and have been linked to allergy cases among kids.
