Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region produced 24.1 million tons of crude oil last year, increasing its annual output to more than one million tons, the local government reported.

 

In 2005, the Tarim Basin, China's largest inland basin in southern Xinjiang, reported 10.3 million tons of crude oil, 1.14 million tons more than the previous year.

 

The Xinjiang Oilfield Corp. in the northern Junggar Basin posted a record 11.7 million tons last year, a rise of 550,000 tons over 2004.

 

Currently, both the Tarim Basin and the Junggar Basin are among the country's largest oilfields with the annual output topping 10 million tons.

 

The Tuha Oilfield, another big oilfield in the region, pumped more than 6,000 tons of oil on a single day of Nov. 28 last year.

 

The region plans to bring its oil output to 26.5 million tons this year, according to the relevant regional department.
