WTO 2005 Beijing Int'l Forum to Kick off

The "WTO & China: 2005 Beijing International Forum" will be held in the Beijing News Plaza on September 16. The forum's preparatory work is progressing in an orderly way, reported Chinadaily.com.cn based on the news release of the forum yesterday.

According to the organizer -- the Beijing WTO (World Trade Organization) Affairs Center --, the topic of the forum is "the Strategic Choice for the China Textile Trade Development."

Deng Hongbo, the director of the Bejing WTO Affairs Center, indicated that the China textile industry is facing a tough international trading environment, as trade friction is occurring frequently under the fierce international competition.

He added if the situation is not handled well, the national economy and social stability will be influenced a lot. Therefore, he said, China must urgently create a harmonious trade environment for the strategic and high development of the China textile industry.

The forum will invite both domestic and foreign officials, experts, and entrepreneurs in the textile industry circle to jointly discuss and analyze some issues including the status quo of the China textile trade, the influence of the institutional environment on the China textile trade development, and the negative effects of the textile trade frictions, and so on.

The "WTO & China: Beijing International Forum" is an annual meeting that was first initiated in 2001.

The 2001 forum was immediately put under the spotlight, with the participation of the Chinese vice premier Wu Yi, vice chairman Cheng Siwei of the NPC Standing Committee, and the WTO Secretary General Supachai Panitchpakdi, all of who gave informative speeches.
