As of August 1, some Legacy cars manufactured by Japan's Fuji Heavy Industries will be recalled from the Chinese market, according to the Chinese quality control authorities.
The latest report released Friday by the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said that the problematic vehicles manufactured between 2003 and 2004 were found to have inferior control gears on the back doors which may be unlocked and opened while the vehicles are running.
A total of 555 vehicles will be recalled, said the report.
Promising to replace all problematic control gears for free, the Japanese company said that all Legacy models manufactured after Dec. 10, 2004 were functioning well, and no more defective vehicles were being imported into China.
