MOFTEC: Swiss Conditionally Lift Ban on Chinese Poultry

The Swiss government has announced that it will reopen its market to Chinese poultry under certain conditions, an official of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation said Tuesday.

Starting from mid-February, officials in Switzerland had examined 292 food samples from 13 countries, including China. Results of the examinations showed that 96.2 percent of the samples met appropriate standards.

The departments concerned thought that it was apparently not reasonable to completely stop importing poultry from China.

The Swiss government announced an import ban on Chinese poultry on February 27, claiming that poultry products of Chinese origin were found to contain antibiotics surpassing the standards. However the Swiss government has approved suppliers who meet Swiss product standards to restart their imports and the products that have been put in quarantine will be released after being qualified.
