The emergency response system in China's capital city helped about 40,000 people in 2001 and was highly rated by local residents.
Ji Kaixuan, a senior Beijing police officer, said Wednesday that the 110 emergency call system aims to give a quick response in cracking down on criminal activities and help ordinary citizens who need emergency help.
Statistics show that the 110 system received 2.17 million emergency calls in 2001 and its quick response has lead to the capture of 10,000 suspects at the scene of the crime.
Ji attributed the successful operation of the Beijing 110 system to people's prompt information-sharing. He encouraged people to continue to cooperate with the emergency response systemin the future.
A special logo for the capital 110 system will be used in all publicity materials from Wednesday but will not be printed on the 110 patrol cars.
The logo was chosen from 400 designs sent in from all over the country. This is the first time that a Chinese policy agency has chosen its logo from public contributions.
