CPC Consults with Non-Communist Parties on Gov't Reform
The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee held a meeting Wednesday morning with all non-Communist parties and persons without party affiliation, seeking their opinions on a government administrative reform plan and proposed candidates for leading official positions of government bodies and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

The CPC Central Committee is to present the reform plan and name lists to the first sessions of the 10th National People's Congress (NPC) and the 10th National Committee of the CPPCC, scheduled for next month.

Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, presided over the meeting. He said it was very important to select a leadership of the government and one of the CPPCC National Committee that are supported by people all over the country. The Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee drew up the proposed name lists after repeated deliberations and consultations inside and outside the CPC.

He stressed that the multi-party cooperation and political consultative system led by the CPC, which was fundamental to China's political system, had played a key role in the political life of the country. The new CPC leadership would stick to it and carry it forward.

Practice had proved that it was of great significance to the country's progress in the socialist modernization drive to consult with non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and persons without party affiliation on important issues, listening to their opinions and pooling their wisdom and suggestions, Hu said.

Major leaders of non-Communist parties, the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce, and representatives of non-party persons attended the meeting. They expressed support for both the reform plan and the name lists, and contributed their advice to the reform of administrative system and government bodies.
