Chinese Premier Holds Talks with Slovenian PM

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao held talks with Slovenian Prime Minister Anton Rop in Beijing Wednesday.

Since the two countries established diplomatic relations 11 years ago, Wen said, China and Slovenia have exchanged frequent visits.

In the past four years, Wen said, the bilateral trade volume increased year by year to a record high last year, ten times as high as when the two countries started their formal relationship.

Not only trade and economic ties, but also cultural, educational, and scientific and technological relations were developing very well, said Wen.

The two countries treated each other fairly, respected each other's choice on how to develop, did not interfere in each other's internal affairs and carried out practical cooperation, Wen said.

He said China is willing to strengthen and push forward the existing friendly cooperative relationship with Slovenia.

Deepening mutual political trust and expanding more practical cooperation would be the common job faced by the two governments, Wen said.

Wen suggested that the two countries keep high-profile contact in order to increase mutual understanding and trust, encourage enterprises to expand cooperation in order to strengthen economic ties, and promote cultural and scientific exchange in order to make the friendship sustainable.

Wen also spoke on China's current political and economic situation to his Slovenian counterpart.

Rop said he agreed with Wen's comment on the bilateral relations as well as his suggestion for boosting the relationship.

He said his government always attached great importance to the relationship with China and will always stick to the one-China policy.

He said Slovenian business people have showed great interest in expanding business relations with the Chinese.

The proposed entry of Slovenia into the European Union early next year would provide new opportunities to Slovenian-Chinese cooperation.

Rop said his country would like to see an overall development of cooperative relations with China.
