China to Host 2003 World Tourism Organization Assembly

The 14th General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization voted on Saturday in Osaka, Japan, to hold their 15th General Assembly, in 2003, in China.
Applicant countries included China, Greece, Panama and Uruguay. Representatives from 97 countries gave the nod to China. The World Tourism Organization helps all member governments to promote tourism, and also aims to promote the understanding, friendship and communication among the member countries. There are now 133 regular members in the organization, whose general assembly takes place every two years. China joined the organization in 1983. China's hosting the conference in 2003 is expected to promote tourism, and increase awareness about China throughout the world.
