The new Japanese cabinet's attitude towards relations with China remains unchanged, new Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said in letters addressed to Chinese President Jiang Zemin and Premier Zhu Rongji. Koizumi noted that the relationship with China is one of the most important bilateral relationships for Japan.
The Japanese Prime Minister added that on this point, the new cabinet will make no changes.
Koizumi said that although some worrisome problems have arisen between the two countries recently, Japan's stance as expressed in the Sino-Japanese Joint Statement, the Sino-Japanese Treaty of Peace and Friendship and the Sino-Japanese Joint Declaration has undergone not even the slightest change.
He said the new cabinet will further promote the mutual understanding and mutual trust between the two countries.
