China generated 1,350 billion kilowatt-hours (kwh) of electricity and consumed 1,326 billion kwh in 2000, up 9.5 percent and 9.7 percent respectively on an annual basis, said Gao Yan, president of the China State Power Corporation (CSPC) in Beijing Wednesday.
Gao said at a press conference that the CSPC last year generated 670 billion kwh of power and sold 870 billion kwh, with a profit of 9.2 billion yuan.
China made significant progress in transmitting electricity from the power-abundant western regions to the relatively developed east regions and combining national power grids in 2000, said Gao.
Statistics show that the east and central China's power grids exchanged electricity of 3.16 billion kwh of electricity in the past year.
The southern power grid sent 7.2 billion kwh of electricity to Guandong Province, while Beijing received 6.9 billion kwh from Inner Mongolia.
According to Gao, the CSPC will be engaged in standardizing the domestic power market and improving its service this year.
