The favorable environment in the Chinese mainland has attracted an increasing number of Taiwanese businessmen who invested in 1,399 projects in the mainland in the first half this year.
These projects involve a total contractual Taiwanese investment up to US$1.99 billion, according to official statistics.
The two figures represent increases of 13.65 percent and 31.29 percent, respectively, over the corresponding period of last year.
The mainland has become the biggest destination of Taiwanese investment, accounting for more than 50 percent of the total Taiwanese investment that has been made out of the island, according to sources.
During the first two days of the Fourth China Fair for International Investment and Trade, which opened in the port city of Xiamen on September 8, a total of 238 Taiwanese-funded projects were signed, involving a combined investment of over US$950 million.
More than 4,000 Taiwanese businessmen are attending the fair, which will conclude September 12. Many of them have commented they are attracted by the mainland's economic strength and social stability as well as a series of policies the mainland has adopted to protect their interests.
As of June this year, the total of number of Taiwanese-funded projects in the mainland had exceeded 45,300, with a total contractual Taiwanese investment of US$46.66 billion, and actually used Taiwanese funds of more than US$25 billion.
