The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Tuesday signed an Air Services Agreement with the government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.
Hong Kong's Secretary for Economic Services, Sandra Lee, signed the agreement on behalf of the HKSAR government. And the Bangladesh side was represented by Bangladeshi Secretary of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Chowdhury Mohammad Mohsin.
Lee said at the signing ceremony held here that air links between Hong Kong and Bangladesh were first established in 1989 when Dragonair started services to Dhaka, and Biman Airlines' services were introduced in 1993.
Passenger traffic carried by the two airlines on the route showed a remarkable increase of 33 percent in the first half of this year, according to Lee.
"The Agreement we sign today provides a legal framework for the further development of air links between Hong Kong and Bangladesh. I believe that airlines of the two sides would make use of the opportunities to further expand their services," Lee added.
Including this Agreement, the number of Air Services Agreements signed by Hong Kong has increased to 45.
