The gross domestic product (GDP) of Beijing, the Chinese capital, hit 169.34 billion yuan (US$20.4 billion) during the first three quarters of this year, up 11 percent over the same period of last year.

Beijing's industrial sector realized 50.59 billion yuan (US$6.1 billion) in added value during the January-September period this year, due to a gradually improving market and structural adjustment.

High-tech industries continued to grow. The sector, involving such companies as Nokia and Panasonic, witnessed a sharp increase of 49.5 percent during the first three quarters of the year.

Beijing's foreign trade sector has experienced its most successful period since 1995. The foreign trade volume of Beijing reached US$31.28 billion during January-August period with a growth rate of 46.4 percent.

Beijing has approved 871 new foreign-funded enterprises during the first three quarters of the year, up 86.1 percent over the same period of last year.
