Two hundred disabled artists are displaying their work at the
Shanghai Library, highlighting weeklong events on helping the
disabled. The two-day show ends today.
Works include calligraphy, photography, sculpture, and
painting.
Pieces were selected among 800 entries, and many artists are
well-known.
For example, Zheng Jieping, a member of the Shanghai Calligraphy
Association, executed all his works using only his two upper arms
wielding ink brushes. He lost both lower arms at age 3.
He displayed a calligraphy poem with characters in gold ink.
Ten artists with hearing problems presented their photography,
including portraits, scenery and sports activities.
The exhibition also features photos about living at "Homes of
Sunshine," a government funded residential program helping the
mentally challenged. The gallery and part of the exhibition will
tour four local high schools and neighborhoods.
