US organization helps conduct post-trauma projects
A non-profit organization engaged in humanitarian aid and development activities,the Mercy Corps, is working on two post-trauma recovery projects in China. Its programs are targeting young victims of the Wenchuan earthquake. A public health expert from the organization spoke with CCTV US correspondent, Zhu Hua.
Majority of students in quake zone return to classes
China's Ministry of Education says the majority of students in the quake zone have returned to classes, as reconstruction efforts progress rapidly.
Li Changchun finishes inspection tour of Sichuan
Senior Chinese leader, Li Changchun, has finished his three-day inspection tour of Sichuan. The visit took him to many severely damaged areas, including Mianyang, Deyang, and Chengdu.
Search for crashed plane continues
The search is continuing for a military transport helicopter which crashed on Saturday during quake relief work in Sichuan Province.
Overseas Chinese help reconstruction
The Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council has briefed the media on efforts by overseas Chinese toward post-quake reconstruction. By Sunday more than 1.1 billion yuan, or 160 million US dollars, worth of donations from overseas Chinese had been received.
Transparency ensured for relief materials distribution
The Ministry of Civil Affairs has issued regulations for the distribution of relief materials donated to the quake-stricken areas. A plan has also been established to ensure that the relief funds and materials are managed in a transparent manner.
70 bln yuan allocated for reconstruction in quake areas
The reconstruction plan for quake-hit areas in Sichuan Province will be carried out in 2 stages. The first phase, lasting 2 years, will mainly focus on reconstruction. The second phase, lasting 5 years from 2011 to 2015 will primarily focus on development. So far, the basic work of reconstruction has been vigorously carried out.
Flood discharge delayed to June 5
At 2 pm on Monday, the water level of the Tangjiashan barrier lake was 1.24 higher than the previous day. Experts say no rain is expected in the coming days, so the overflow of the lake may now happen on Thursday, and not Tuesday as originally predicted.
