Shen Peiyun:

The 53-year-old inspector in Yingxiu was saved by armed police from his collapsed office building at 3:36 p.m. on Sunday after 146 hours.

He suffered head injuries and was flown by helicopter to Huaxi Hospital affiliated to Sichuan University, Chengdu. Shen was conscious and clutched the hand of a People's Liberation Army doctor. Doctors said he had a "very good chance" of recovery.

Tang Xiong:

The doctor was rescued at 9:15 a.m. on Sunday from a collapsed hospital in Beichuan, 139 hours after the quake. He was conscious and only slightly bruised.

Tang and his wife Xie Shouju touched many people by encouraging each other in their plight. Xie had been saved by the same soldier. "I want to have a child," Tang said after being sent to a hospital in Mianyang. He suffered lung failure and medical workers are fighting to save his life.

Xu Rongxing:

The 61-year-old was rescued on Saturday evening in Dujiangyan by Russian rescuers after being buried for 127 hours. She was the first survivor saved by foreign rescuers.

The pensioner, now in the Huangxi hospital in Chengdu, said she kept telling herself "I must drink water".

Bian Gangfen

The 31-year-old rescued at 6:18 p.m. on Saturday in Yinghua Township, Shifang City, after 124 hours under the rubble of a chemical factory.

Fire-fighters discovered Bian on Friday night. They used life detection equipment to check on her every few hours during the rescue.

Bian was conscious when they carried her out and said "Thank you" to the people around her. Doctors said she had suffered back injuries and took her to a local hospital. She recovered quickly and is soon to be discharged.

Jiang Yuhang:

The 20-year-old highway administration employee was extricated at about 5:12 p.m. on Saturday, 123 hours after he was trapped in the rubble of his home in Yingxiu.

He has been discharged from hospital.

Jiang was on night shift and sleeping when the earthquake struck on Monday afternoon. At first, Jiang and his colleague Xu Chaofeng encouraged each other, before Xu stopped talking a day later. He passed the time trying to "recall happy moments".

"I was expecting to see my son's body, I never expected to see him alive," said Jiang's mother, Long Jinyu.
