The Brazilian and Caribbean envoys in China offered relief materials and cash for the quake-hit areas on Tuesday.

Brazilian ambassador to China Luiz Augusto De Castro Neves conveyed a list of 200,000 U.S. dollars worth of relief materials to Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang.

These materials consist of tents, blankets, clothing, fresh water and noodles, which are urgently required by people in the disaster areas, De Castro Neves said. They were sent from Beijing to Chengdu by train on Monday and were scheduled to arrive in the quake areas at 11 p.m. on Wednesday.

The ambassador said the Brazilian people share the grief of the Chinese people and are ready to help.

The Caribbean mission in China donated 48,400 yuan (about 6,900 U.S. dollars). Jamaican ambassador to China Wayne McCook, Grenadian ambassador Joslyn Whiteman, Surinamese ambassador Mohamed Soerokarso, Bahamas Charge d'Affaires Sheila Carey and Guyanan Charge d'Affaires Millicent Rose donated on behalf of their respective embassies.

The Pakistani ambassador's wife, Taranum Bashir, brought children of the embassy's school to the Foreign Ministry, donating 25,000 yuan for quake survivors.

"We feel sad and share the grief of the children. We love Chinese children," said 8-year-old Pakistani student Ahmed.

Vice Foreign Minister Li Jinzhang said among the most needed materials are tents, blankets, food, drinking water and medicines. The international community had already responded to China's requirements, he said, adding that China had collected about 30,000 tents from the international community. More relief materials are on the way to China.

"We are confident and determined to conquer the disaster and rebuild our homeland. We welcome and accept all help and support from people around the world," he said.
