Feature: Rescue soldiers' life in quake-hit areas
Adjust font size:

Rescue soldiers are working hard to save every possible life and help as many victims as possible, while facing harsh weather and threats from the aftershocks. Let's take a closer look at their life in the quake-hit areas and the spirit that they've displayed.

Rescue soldiers eat instant noodles for dinner.

Biscuits for breakfast, rice for lunch, and instant noodles for dinner.

This is what rescue soldiers working in a quake-hit town in Dujiangyan City are living on.

Because of the emergency, they want to save as much food as possible and deliver them to victims in the depths of the mountains, where relief materials have been hard to come by.

Since last weekend, this group has dispatched a number of medical teams to the mountains for rescue work.

These female soldiers arrived here last Wednesday. On their first night here, they didn't even have a tent. They'v been working now for three days and four nights.

One rescue soldier said "I basically haven't slept these past several days. As long as our soldiers are still working in the mountains, we cannot rest here."

The soldiers' hard-working spirit and courage can be felt across the quake-hit areas.

This soldier was hit in the head by a falling stone following an aftershock.

Some of the soldiers are themselves victims. Their homes have been destroyed, and their relatives have been killed or have been missing since the massive earthquake.

This soldier is carrying out rescue operations near his home in Dujiangyan. He hasn't mentioned it to anyone else. Instead, he is pouring all his efforts into the rescue.

Another rescue soldier said "We began working immediately after receiving our orders. When we arrived at the rescue site that we were assigned to go to, I found that it was my collapsed home."

There are still many soldiers searching for and saving people buried under the debris while facing the threat of aftershocks. Many of them are carrying tools to the rescue sites by foot. They are even digging away at the rubble with their bare hands. Even when their hands begin to bleed, they are reluctant to treat their wounds, because they don't want to stop working. Some have even suffered from sun stroke and dehydration. But none of them are willing to take a break.
