Yantai City, a coastal city of Shandong Province, will invest 60 billion yuan (US$ 9.85 billion) in the support of environmental protection industries during the period of the 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), emphasizing new projects in environmental protection technology and equipment.

A qualification system for environmental protection industries will be set up and the supervisory and regulatory system will also be improved.

Innovations in saving energy and reducing consumption, water treatment, prevention and the control of environmental pollution and comprehensive harnessing of solid waste will be encouraged to be produced and distributed during this time period.

Statistics show that the city has two national recycling economic demonstration pilot projects and 328 enterprises in the environmental protection industry, with annual output value exceeding 2 million yuan.
