The Shandong provincial industrial scale of the Internet of Things is expected to exceed 200 billion yuan (US$32.84 billion) by 2015, according to a document on the development of the provincial Internet of Things released by the government.

The province will implement a pilot demonstration application of Internet of Things in such varied areas as industry, agriculture, energy-saving, environmental protection, commercial circulation, transportation, energy, public security, social undertakings, urban management and product safety.

The document also says that relying on Jinan and Qingdao's industrial bases of the Internet of Things, priority will be given to the development of intelligence sensors, new light sources, new wide-band wireless communication, mobile internet, cloud computing and big data service, and the operation and application of the Internet of Things.
