Lenovo gets prepared for high-tech Olympics
Adjust font size:

After seven years of meticulous preparation, the Beijing Olympic Games is on its marks and Lenovo Group is ready.

As the only Worldwide Olympic Partner (TOP) originating from China and the exclusive computing equipment supplier for the Games, Lenovo has devoted extraordinary passion to the upcoming Games.

After his completion of the torch relay at Tian'anmen Square yesterday, Yang Yuanqing, chairman of the board of the group, said: "We have every reason to say, we're ready! Lenovo has the ability and confidence to fulfill its mission and realize our commitment to the Beijing Olympics".

A successful host of the Olympic Games requires the strong guarantee of computer technology and equipment. As the gala that boasts the most participating countries, regions and number of people, it requires the support of outstanding IT products.

"During the competition, we have to prove our technology is steady enough in actual application," said Hou Xinyi, deputy director of the Technology Department of the Beijing Olympic Games.

Each set of computers supplied by Lenovo to the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games of the XXIX Olympiad has passed strict tests at different levels. It is completely qualified to meet the demanding requirements for a complex competition environment.

Lenovo sent nearly 100 technicians and about 8,000 sets of computers to the 2006 Torino Winter Olympic Games, winning appreciation from the IOC and global technology experts.

This time, Lenovo is providing more than 30,000 items of computing equipment to support the successful management of the most complex sports event in the world.

The equipment includes 700 laptops, 900 servers, 12,000 personal computers, 10,000 monitors, 3,500 desktop printers and 2,000 touch screens.

These facilities will be used in seven Olympic host cities including Beijing, Qingdao, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tianjin.

The company has also created seven Internet lounges for athletes, trainers, media and other members of the Olympic family near competition venues.

A hi-tech Olympics is one of the three concepts of the Beijing Games, and the wide application of innovative science and technology has become one of the hallmarks of the Games.

The IdeaPad U8 Olympic version is a new generation of Lenovo's portable personal computer products. It took the company five years to win its independent intellectual property rights. It is a terminal device that can transmit photo so fast in a wireless environment.

Server solutions based on the IA framework have completely replaced the traditional RISC framework at the Beijing Olympics.

For such a top IT application as the Olympic Games, this operation is just like replacing the "IT heart" of the Olympics. It is a milestone in the development of the industry.
