Adjust font size:

Ninety-five Chinese riot police left Beijing for Haiti on Thursday, China's fifth team of peacekeepers to join the United Nations peacekeeping mission there.

A 30-member contingent of the team had already arrived in Haiti on April 4, according to the Ministry of Public Security.

The team is comprised of border police officers from south China's Guangdong Province, including seven women.

The members' average age is 29.5. They are expected to be stationed in Haiti for eight months, the ministry said.

The team's main tasks include supporting the work of local police, helping to handle mass incidents and training local riot police, said Hu Yunwang, political commissar of the team.

China's fourth riot police team in Haiti is scheduled to return home on April 14.
