Adjust font size:

Twenty-seven people were killed in a mud-rock slide in southwest China's Yunnan Province on Thursday.

The disaster took place at about 6:00 AM in a field near the Xiaojiangping Dam, in Sujiahekou Hydropower Station, in Tengchong County, western Yunnan. Mud-rock slides triggered by continuous rains enveloped three battered tents, where 74 workers lived.

Forty of the workers escaped, with five of them sustaining slight injuries. The remaining 34 workers were buried alive.

Additionally, five of the buried workers were resuscitated. Rescuers have recovered 27 bodies. They are still looking for the other two missing workers.

The condition of the five rescued workers is still unknown.

Luo Zhengfu, Vice Governor of Yunnan Province, has rushed to the site with a disaster relief team.
