Officials in southwest China's Yunnan Province were keeping an eye on the
skies on Friday, as they warned of the risk of rain and
landslides.
Yang Yalin, director of Ning'er Autonomous County's quake relief
headquarters, said 62 rockslide danger spots had been identified,
forcing the evacuation of more than 2,000 households.
The rainy season is nearly here, said Yang.
An earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale which hit the
area last Sunday destroyed buildings, equipment and hospitals
throughout the county.
A temporary hospital has had to be set up in a public square to
care for people injured in the quake.
Major roads in the county have been cut. The local government is
organizing teams of people to carry out road repairs and prevent
damage to national highways.
The county government has said it will purchase building
materials for quake-hit families and provide reconstruction
subsidies.
"We are hoping that everyone will have been able to rebuild
their house by the end of the year so that they can celebrate the
traditional Chinese new year in their new houses," said Yang.
