Northwest China's
Gansu Province has planned to invest nearly 5 billion yuan(
US$620 million) by 2010 to treat water pollution of the Yellow
River's section in the province.
The province has mapped out a five-year plan for water pollution
prevention and treatment, said a source with the provincial
environment bureau.
From 2006 to 2010, the province will carry out 199 projects with
a total investment of 4.97 billion yuan, involving treatment of
industrial and domestic sewage, and the enhancement of
environmental monitoring, the plan said.
Statistics from the bureau show that 237 million tons of waste
water, including both industrial and domestic sewage, flows into
the river in Gansu every year.
The Yellow River, China's second largest river with a length of
5,464 kilometers, runs in Gansu Province for 913 kilometers.
