GUANGZHOU, Nov. 17 (Xinhua) -- Sixteen-year-old sprinter Chen Yujie from China's Zhejiang won the women's 100m with a new Asian U20 record, while Gong Debin of Fujian broke the men's 400m hurdles national record at the 15th National Games here on Monday.

Chen claimed the women's 100m title in 11.10 seconds.

After the race, Chen embraced veteran Olympian Wei Yongli in what many saw as a symbolic passing of the torch.

Chen attributed her success to technical improvements and a relaxed mindset. "After working for so long to refine my technique, I finally executed it well in the race. I felt very relaxed," she said.

Known as part of the "kid sister generation," Chen said she tries not to pay attention to the nickname. "It's fine. How people see me is their business. They can use the nickname if they like; I just need to be myself," she noted.

In the men's 100m final, Li Zeyang of Hubei hit the finishing line first in 10.11 seconds as a dark horse.

Gong was crowned in the men's 400m hurdles in 48.68 seconds, breaking the national record, while Olympian Mo Jiadie won the women's 400m hurdles in 55.19 seconds.

Gong said the victory capped a season of steady improvement. "My technique and stamina have clearly progressed this year," he said in a post-race interview.

"I was prepared to go under 49 seconds, and the crowd's encouragement pushed me to break the national record," he said.

Looking ahead, the 28-year-old champion said he hopes to compete at next year's Asian Games. "I will see if I can race," he said.

In addition, Su Lingdan of Jiangsu secured the women's javelin gold with 62.42 meters in her first attempt. Enditem
