XI'AN, China, Oct. 12 (Xinhua) -- Mark Williams defeated Daniel Wells 6-4 in the semifinals of the 2025 World Snooker Xi'an Grand Prix here on Sunday, setting up a final clash with Shaun Murphy, who beat Gary Wilson.

Facing Wells, Williams, who edged China's Lyu Haotian 5-4 on Saturday, took a 2-1 lead after three frames.

In the fourth frame, both players missed several chances, allowing Wells to level the match 2-2 heading into the interval.

The pair traded frames to make it 3-3 before the 50-year-old Williams won two in a row to go 5-3 up before the final break.

Wells had a chance to stay alive in the ninth frame but made several errors, handing Williams the victory.

"I was told then (after the eighth frame) if it went 5-4, the rest game was getting pulled off till tonight. So I'm so glad to get it over with (6-3), because I have never been pulled off in a match in my life," said Williams.

"There is only so much scraping. I will try and scrape one more game and let's see what happens," Williams added.

With the win, Williams is now one step away from becoming the oldest ranking event winner in snooker history.

In the other semifinal, Murphy fired three century breaks in a thrilling 6-4 victory over Wilson.

The Xi'an Grand Prix winner will receive 177,000 pounds (around 236,470 U.S. dollars), while the runner-up will pocket 76,000 pounds. Enditem
