BEIJING, Oct. 10 (Xinhua) -- Jin Xiangjun, former governor of north China's Shanxi Province, has been expelled from the Communist Party of China (CPC) and dismissed from public office for serious violations of Party discipline and laws, according to an official statement on Friday.

In a joint statement, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection and the National Commission of Supervision stated that the decisions were made following an investigation into Jin, which was conducted with the approval of the CPC Central Committee.

Jin, who is also a former deputy chief of the CPC Shanxi Provincial Committee, was found to have lost his ideals and convictions, and to have implemented the decisions and plans of the CPC Central Committee in a half-hearted, altered and perfunctory manner.

The investigation found that he had violated the Party's eight-point decision on improving work conduct by accepting free "nanny-style services" from private entrepreneurs. He had also violated organization principles as he sought benefits for others in the promotion and appointment of officials.

Jin was found to have taken advantage of his position to seek profits for others in matters such as business operations and project contracting, illegally accepting huge amounts of money and gifts in return.

His acts constituted severe breaches of Party discipline and serious duty-related violations, as well as the suspected crime of taking bribes, the statement reads.

Jin's illicit gains will be confiscated and his case will be transferred to procuratorial authorities for examination and prosecution in accordance with the law, according to the statement. Enditem
