WUHAN, Oct. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's top-ranked tennis player Zheng Qinwen has withdrawn from the Wuhan Open as she continues to recover from right elbow surgery, the tournament's organizers announced on Friday.

The Wuhan Open organizers posted a video statement from Zheng on Weibo, in which she said she has not yet fully recovered.

"After consulting with doctors and my team, I'm sorry to announce my withdrawal from this year's Wuhan Open. I'm very grateful for the support from all fans, especially those from my hometown. I look forward to seeing you at the Wuhan Open next year," said Zheng.

The 22-year-old returned last week at the China Open but retired in the third set of her third-round match.

Zheng underwent elbow surgery in July following a first-round loss at Wimbledon. The world No. 9 missed the US Open and several other tournaments before attempting her comeback in Beijing. Enditem
