SHENZHEN, China, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- The USA advanced to the final of Billie Jean King Cup after defeating Britain 2-0 here on Saturday, setting up a final clash with defending champions Italy.
The USA will be chasing their 19th title in their 31st appearance in a Billie Jean King Cup final but their first since 2018.
World No. 7 Pegula came from behind to dispatch Katie Boulter 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 and seal the victory for the USA before Emma Navarro overcame Sonay Kartal 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to put the USA in front.
"Super happy. It was a battle both matches today for me and Emma. Happy to be through there," Pegula said.
It marks the first time for the 31-year-old to reach a Billie Jean King Cup final.
"We're all having so much fun. It's the first time I've ever been into a Final, the first time they all have been. It's a new experience that I get to experience with all of them, so that's fun."
The USA will face reigning champions Italy in the final, who overcame Ukraine 2-1 in the earlier semifinal on Friday.
"We're happy about today. We've got to regroup and be ready for Italy. I think we're just really enjoying the moment. Win or lose, we're such a great team. It's a privilege to be amongst all these girls and to experience it," Pegula said. Enditem
