ROME, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Former Italy international Alessandro Florenzi announced his retirement through social media on Wednesday, after his contract with AC Milan expired this summer.

Having come through the Roma youth academy, Florenzi spent the better part of his professional career at the capital-based team. His highlight was an excellent long-range lob against Barcelona in a 2015/2016 Champions League fixture, which was eventually nominated for the 2015 FIFA Puskas Award.

Additionally, the 34-year-old also had spells at Valencia, Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan, winning one Serie A championship and one Coupe de France, among others.

The full-back also has 49 caps for the Italy national team, helping the Azzurri win the Euro Championship in 2021. Enditem
