CHENGDU, Aug. 17 (Xinhua) -- The United States retained the title with a 5-0 victory over Chinese Taipei in the women's softball final at the Chengdu World Games on Sunday.
The U.S. took control early as Amanda Mazur walked and Bubba Nickles singled to put runners on the corners. Sj Jaquish then hit a 3-run homer to left field, driving in Mazur and Nickles.
Chinese Taipei was unable to respond, with Chen Chia-Yi striking out and Lin Chih-Ying and Chiang Ting-En grounding out. The U.S. added two more runs in the seventh inning and closed out the win.
In the bronze medal game, Japan defeated Canada 10-0 in four innings.
Rain on Saturday forced the semifinals to be played early Sunday. In a 10-inning contest, the U.S. edged Japan 7-6 to advance to the gold medal game, while Chinese Taipei secured its spot in the final with a 6-4 win over Canada. Enditem
