HANGZHOU, Aug. 16 (Xinhua) -- Shanghai Port beat Henan FC 4-1 to climb to the top of the 2025 Chinese Super League standings with 47 points, one point ahead of city rival Shanghai Shenhua, which was held to a goalless draw with Zhejiang FC on Saturday.
In last Saturday's Shanghai derby, Port edged long-time leader Shenhua 2-1, cutting the deficit to only one point, and the defending champion extended its momentum with a dominant performance against Henan.
Wang Shenchao broke the deadlock in the 21st minute when he headed home from Matheus Vital's pinpoint free-kick.
The Brazilian midfielder got on the scoresheet himself 16 minutes later, unleashing a long-range strike into the far corner, before threading a through ball to set up Leonardo for an easy finish in first-half stoppage time.
Oscar Melendo added a fourth in the 56th minute, marking his first goal for Port, while Henan pulled one back ten minutes later.
Shenhua failed to win for a third straight game after being held 0-0 by Zhejiang. Their best chance came in the 22nd minute when Andre Luis's overhead kick was denied by the crossbar.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Beijing Guoan beat Qingdao West Coast 3-1 to rank third in the league with 45 points, while Chengdu Rongcheng drew with Qingdao Hainiu 0-0 to sit fourth with 44 points.
